NIMR History

Concept

The first NIMR vehicle design is announced by a joint venture of regional and UAE investors. It is a multipurpose vehicle intended to replace existing 4×4 light tactical vehicles, primarily in the Middle East and Asia.

2000

First display

At the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) 2001, a prototype vehicle is displayed for the first time and a dedicated production facility is established at Duleil, Jordan.

2001

Prototype production

Production of two further prototype trial vehicles begins for testing, supported by the UAE Armed Forces.

2002

New variant

At IDEX 2005, a 6×6 variant is displayed for the first time

2005

Tawazun acquisition

In 2010, Tawazun Holdings acquires a 60% stake in NIMR.

2010

Re-launch

Construction begins on a new factory in the Tawazun Industrial Park in Abu Dhabi, including facilities for research and development, production and marketing. A metal fabrication plant is established in Al Ain, also in Abu Dhabi.

2011

Algeria joint venture

Algeria and the UAE sign an agreement to jointly produce NIMR armoured vehicles in Algeria. Under the agreement between the Algerian Ministry of Defence’s Mechanical Industry Promotion Group and Tawazun Holdings, the NIMR-Algerie Joint Stock Company is established to produce 4×4 armoured station wagon variants.

2012

Ground breaking ceremony

NIMR holds a ground-breaking ceremony for its new integrated production facility at the Tawazun Industrial Park. The facility, which has a built-up area of 37,500 square meters and a test track, significantly enhances NIMR’s production capabilities.

2014

Emirates Defence Industries Company formed

In December 2014, the Government of the UAE announces the creation of the Emirates Defence Industries Company, an integrated national defence manufacturing and services platform jointly owned by Mubalada Development Company and Tawazun Holdings.

2014

NIMR joins EDIC

Ownership of NIMR is transferred from Tawazun to EDIC.

2015

1,000th Vehicle

NIMR Automotive Celebrates the Completion of its 1,000th Vehicle

2016

European market

NIMR Automotive announces plans to break into the European market through a collaboration with Czech manufacturer VOP CZ.
